Hope for Today June 21

Good morning MIP--

Today's reading is a focus on step 10--'continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it'.  The writer interprets this step as a reminder that we are human and will continue to make mistakes, no matter how long in recovery. For me the difference is pre-recovery some of the behaviors that are harmful to me or others I did not recognize as mistakes and I would continue along sort of blindly. Now I feel more of an awareness and will be more accountable for my own behavior.

The reading goes on to remind us that when we make mistakes we have the opportunity to stop, acknowledge, and try a different way. What I have noticed is when my 'default' behaviors come up-- I'm in an old situation for example, I am better able to recognize and work on a new approach.  For me it has become a feeling sort of like--'oh yeah, I tend to be----- in this situation.  That really doesn't work so today I will try ----'.

as I have worked on my program I've also seen that some behaviors that were used in survival mode are not necessary in live and thrive mode.

Hope you all have a pleasant Tuesday!

Mary

Great reminder Mary I love Step 10, It keeps me current and allows me to see what I am doing currently that might hurt me. I can then stop, address the situation, make amends and so not develop a back log of resentments or fear to deal with.

Thanks for our wisdom and your service. Have a great day.

Thank you Mary for today's reading, your ESH and your service! I also love Step 10 as it helps me 'clean my slate' each day with the hope and intent of truly starting over with each new day. Before the program, I held grudges, shame, guilt, etc. for long periods of time which blocked me from the sunshine of the spirit. The program has given me the ability to truly let go, let God and just try to be/do better!

Happy Tuesday everyone! Make it a great day!!

It's nice to know that I can admit to being wrong now, and change my approach. My old thinking was that I had to remain committed to whatever I had started, no matter how unreasonable, or I would lose face. So much time wasted trying to convince myself and others that I was right about something that I knew deep down I wasn't. Crazy!!
Isn' it funny how things like this- admitting when we are wrong- seem like they are going to be chores or unpleasant tasks when we first look at them when in reality they are gifts that free us up from negative and destructive habits.

I forgot my alabooks while traveling...thanks so much for posting this last year. What a gift to be able to do a search and then see what the page said--reflect on it & share a bit. I so appreciate that u took time to do this, so when I feel a tad lost without my daily readers, I can find my serenity source again. (or one of my sources)

I heard in your share about awareness, acceptance and action on the step 10 things that come up. I was reminded about how this is a practice program...the gentleness of seeing, not judging then making a different choice or maybe not ...then learning from either result. I am also reminded about how important the 11th step is to my 10th. when I meditate consistently I find I am better able to get some distance from my habitual patterns in the moment they are triggered--then I am better able to pause b4 jumping into the old wheel ruts of old behaviors and thought patterns. I can use tools like WAIT (why am i talking) & THINK (is this thing I am about to do or say: Thoughtful, honest, intelligent, necessary, kind??) Lots to consider in this step and lots of ways to practice...
