Silly Silly Softball People

I am in Kansas so if any of you watch weather, you know that the middle of the country is under severe weather watches, warnings, complete with strong wind, heavy downpours, flash flooding and tornadoes!!

So - it's Tuesday and Tuesday is softball night - 4 games each week.  Well - nobody thought we would play tonight.  One by one, the complexes cancelled the evening due to impending weather.  Except one - you guessed it - we were to 'Play Ball'!

I am grateful - I live about 10 minutes from the field.  However, there are folks who drive a ways to get there and to get home.  About 30 minutes into the first game, here comes the lightning.  We are supposed to be pulled off for lighting.  We played another 10-15 minutes, watching it get closer and closer and closer.  Finally, they called for a 'delay'.  *sigh*

We all went to be undercover - mind you - there are 8 fields with 20-22 players each + umpires + spectators.  That's a lotta people seeking shelter!  There are 3 complexes like this - so even more people close by!  The delay was to be 15 minutes from the last lightning strike.  Well - it kept striking so they wait until it starts pouring rain, and then decide we can all go home for the night!!!

I am powerless over all other people, places and things - including the powers to be at softball....however, just wanted to share that if I were the Softball Field Queen, you can bet that we would have been cancelled before all these people came to the fields.  Can you imagine the chaos of all these cars trying to get out of the lot and get home?  SMH!

Grateful to be home safe and sound.  Gotta love those who did not cancel even if I didn't like the outcome!

Glad you are finally safe at home IAH . I imagine that making the decision to call the game requires some "common sense" and I find "common sense" is not too common after all :)

Praying for your safety during these storms. My 19 year handicapped son is an avid baseball enthusiast. Spring training is a national holiday for him. Despite his perceived low intellectual capacity he knows stats, trades, coaches and plays. He plays for a Challenger division here and last weekend he was diehard hoping to get some innings in before the deluge of rainfall. I understand the struggle.

Thanks ladies!! I've been here my whole life so do understand that because of 4 seasons, they have to manage a tight schedule. The youth baseball and softball organizations start soon also, so rescheduling can be a nightmare for them. However, yesterday's weather event has been a News Hot Topic for more than a week. Hopefully everyone else who's affected by these storms is safe - we had record rain yesterday 3.5 inches. I know this is nothing compared to Houston/Texas area, but enough to make navigating some roads difficult.

I agree Betty on the common sense - I literally was just SMH!!!
