Courage to Change (C2C) 2/14/16

Today's reading starts by suggest that confusion can be a gift from God.  The writer states that often he/she was not truly ready to take action when looking back at times he/she felt desperate for an immediate solution.  When fully ready, the information necessary was there for the taking.

The writer discusses making himself/herself crazy over too much thinking with too much information.  Today, a feeling of confusion is considered grace instead by the writer.  Dealing with confusion is compared to cooking - if the bread isn't done, it's not yet removed from the oven for consumption.  Instead, the bread is allowed to finish baking.  If a clear solution is not yet shown, the writer trusts God to have it appear when the time is right.

The reminder for today suggests we thank our Higher Power for whatever we experience today.  Even if we are troubled or confused, we should give thanks.  Have faith that every experience can offer us a gift.  We just need to be willing to look at our situation with the light of gratitude.

Today's quote - "Everything has its wonders, even darkness and silence, and I learn, whatever state I may be in, therein to be content." --- Helen Keller

For me, when confused or uncertain, I used to feel anxiety and fear.  Al-Anon has taught me to replace those old patterns of thinking with faith and trust that everything will be OK and that HP has got this....whatever this is.  This isn't always a natural automatic response to uncertainty for me - it's a conscious effort to pause, pray and wait.  Prior to the program, I was a knee-jerk decision maker, usually managed by my emotional state at the time.  These decisions for my life often did not turn out well - even with the best of intentions.

My life goes so much better when I can be grateful for what I have and focus on the present moment.  It is when I dwell on the past, project into the future or choose pity over gratitude that I loose my way and my focus.  I am so grateful that Al-Anon has given me the gift of progress vs. perfection and tons of tools to center me and keep me focused on my journey.

Happy Valentine's Day to each/all!  May you give special attention to the one you love the most - yourself!!!  (((Hugs)))
