Just for today saying I been understand wrong, plz need help with this one

Just for today, I will try to live through this day only,
and not tackle my whole life problem
at once. I can do something for twelve hours
that would appall me if I felt that I had to
keep it up for a lifetime.       ????????????,explain, this seems to be a tough one.i make mountains out of molehills . Thanks LU

LU, wanted to explain to you as clearly and concisely as possible:

Events are temporary not likely to happen again tomorrow. Thats what the spirit of this verse is intended to convey Nothing is forever.
As Henry David Thoreau says, You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land, there is no other life but this.

Henry David Thoreau is saying exactly the same thing as this verse; live through each moment find YOUR eternity in the NOW

The intention of this verse is to remind you of your need to stay focused in the present moment recognizing NOW IS your eternity

Are you willing to develop empathy, concern, and kindness and let go of your disgust, shock, dismay, or outrage over what you may face? This verse reminds you that joy cannot be found by worrying about the total journey of your life Your disgust, shock, dismay, or outrage are products of your attitude.

Trying to control every aspect of your lives is exhausting and impossible.

This verse reminds you to start each day fresh This verse reminds you to let go of yesterdays troubles
This verse reminds you to let go of yesterdays problems, fears, and doubts {{HUGS}}

Just For Today is the same as ODAT (one day at a time). The past is over and the future hasn't happened yet. I can ruin each and every day if I constantly think about past hurts and problelms, and live in fear worrying about tomorrow. If I just take today, it is a much more manageable piece of time. Let me keep my focus on today. Even if today doesn't turn out great, I will have a new day tomorrow to learn from my mistakes and try to do things better. Take care of yourself, use your tools and sponsor, and keep coming back, Lyne

I always recite this Just for Today to myself whenever I find myself in a trying situation or when I'm ill or when I'm struggling with a concept. It reminds me that nothing lasts forever. That tomorrow will look different from today: maybe it will be better, maybe it won't? But, it will be different. It's a reminder that if I can just push through something unpleasant, it will be temporary and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I love what Debbie shared above. That was beautiful!

Don't feel badly about finding this hard to understand.  It is a simple concept but very hard for those of us who are "planners," we are always looking to the future and thinking/planning for what might happen.  Planning is good, but some of us (me) take it too far so it imprisons us in thoughts of things we can never control.

I agree it's the same as One Day at a Time.  This also is a simple concept but not so simple to make a habit. I have printed out those simple words "One Day At A Time" and put them in a frame next to my bed.  Honestly, I should put it on the wall in every room, in my car, in my cubicle at work ... but I don't want to look crazy

What I'm saying is, taking one day at a time is a new skill and it takes lots of reminders and practice to "get it."  As my sponsor said to me, "Be gentle with yourself."  Be patient with yourself, each day and each moment say "I just have to deal with today."  Keep practicing, and it does get better.
