Al-Anon Acronym For 8/28/15 ... F.E.A.R.

FEAR: False. Evidence. Appearing. Real.

In Al-Anon, the answer to What if? Is: Dont project! Dont imagine the worst; deal with your problems as they arise.

Live one day at a time. I cannot do anything about things that havent happened; I will not let the past experiences

make me dread the unknown future. It is a vain and unprofitable thing to conceive either grief or joy for future things

which perhaps will never come about. (One day At a Time in Al-Anon pg. 193)

I found it to be so true, that in order to really reap the benefits of Al-Anon, I had to live in the present, to be mindful

of what I was doing, because to live otherwise only created an unproductive atmosphere whereby I could not learn

or grow.  Learning to meditate is a huge help and knowing that my HP had my back, letting go of what I cannot

control and detaching from the rest, allowed me to stop the F.E.A.R.

This speaks to me Debb. I tend to worry to the point of making myself physically ill over things that may or may not happen, or about the past which I cannot change.

Alanon has a wonderful way of teaching you to stay in the present. Worrying is a waste of precious time. Have a great day!

Love this share Debb.

I have also heard "FEAR "described as Face Everything And Recover. which is an equally important tool in my recovery tool box now that I believe that HP is walking with me .

Remembering that my FEAR is merely False Evidence Appearing Real, I can Face Everything And Recover and let go of my Denial,Pretend and Magial Thinking tools.

Have a special day.aww

Thanks Debb...

This has Indeed been a Benefit to my "Life Tool Box"... I am a Natural Projector and I know that Comes from Growing up ACOA... If our Home you was always trying to guess the Next Move, Figure out what would be the Worst that Could Happen, then X's that by 5 to the Point even as a Child I Could Not Sleep when the Insanity would Fly Wide Open...

Al-Anon has Taught Me that Sometimes Reminding myself In This Moment... I'm Ok... This is a GOOD Minute, or I have to Reassure Myself when the Thoughts Come Spinning... I have to Stop what I am Doing, and Remind Myself, Right Now I'm Doing Dishes & I'm OK... Or Right Now I'm Having Coffee, but I'm Ok... All things That Remind Me... False Evidence Appearing Real...

Thanks for this, Needed to Hear it Today, and Grateful for the Reminder... I Love them Both "Face Everything And Recover" As Well as "False Evidence Appearing Real"... Gotta Love those Tools :)

Whenever I dont know where AH is or he has not called...of course I always think the worse...who is going to come knocking at my door..or  before going into house after working all day dread what condition I will find him in...sometimes he is passed out sometimes sober as can be....but always afraid will find even worse......but I am going work this one....this is a really good one for me

Hey I love both the FEAR sayings and I'm going to make a note of them. Reading the shares reminded me of how much anxiety I had in high school. Every Sunday night I would lie awake with anxiety dreading the week and not knowing what was to come. I was a straight A student and had nothing to fear, but FEAR it was. And there was no one I could turn to. I learned fear in my household and expected it in all situations. At 64 alanon is a welcome relief. Thanks, Lyne

Thank you all!  Nice post and tread.  My sponsor pointed out to me, that my biggest fear was fear of the unknown?  confuse  He was right!  My default setting always took me to a negative outcome.  Unground/unfounded fear.  It's getting better the more I stick around.  Having faith in a HP and The Program has been huge for me.  The opposite of fear= faith.  Fear based diesase, Faith based solution.

Fear is HUGE for me and program has helped me a ton. I struggle with fear so much that it sometimes immobilizes me. Interesting thought from Mike, though, about the fact that it's really fear of the unknown. I can see that with myself and it helps put my fear in perspective. Thank you all for sharing!
