What do you need?

This question is possibly the most dangerous ever asked by AH and my counselor.

The question I can't let myself think about too long....yet it nags at the surface whether I want it to or not.

What I need is simple, and yet so profound and far away from here.

I need to see red flags faster.  I need to use my voice.  I need equality and a help mate.  I need clear boundaries.  I need to continue to work on me.

I need to find my own happiness - as it does not exist within my marriage.

What I need is me listening to HP.

LFJ Sounds as if you will find all this and more working the alanon program. I have reached the point where I realize that all I need is Serenity, Courage and Wisdom . These too can be maintained by my attending alanon one day at a time.

LedfootJenny -

What a powerful share - such a simple question and so hard at times to answer......

I would add Acceptance to Betty's share above me - I have to accept people, places, things and events around me with courage. If I want Serenity, I must apply the wisdom I've gain by being in the program and do the next right thing.

Thanks for the thread - (((Hugs)))!

Thank you LedfootJenny -
Your post moved me so much that I had to reply. I can mirror your needs exactly, but I don't know that I would have been able to so eloquently put them in to words. Thank you for sharing and reminding me of my needs as well. "I need to be heard" struck me right after your "I need to use my voice". Thank you again!

I love the additions to the list! Serenity, courage, wisdom, acceptance, to be heard.

As I take my inventory I realize that the only person who can provide all of my needs is me and HP. Yet, I've chosen (made a decision ) not to address my own need and self care.

I am feeling excited to start to do that and to get to know me :)

Yes, ma'am, that is exactly what we need. We need to listen to that still, small voice within where we know it's our HP talking to us. Where we find peace and joy and serenity through working the program and then sharing with others. Thank you for the gentle reminders today.

Three cheers for putting your own self care first and getting to know yourself!
