Gracious...It's the old me!!

Wednesday Night Turning Point AFG is my home group and recently I invited an AA member who was being done in by a "qualifier" son.  He came back last evening some what loosened up emotionally by the first meeting and God was I not face to face with my old ego and behavior?  He ranted and did his best (??) trauma and drama and even thumped the table for emphasis like I use to as a newbie.  I got clued when he started the rant with "my sponsor didn't pick me up for the meeting" and guess who he aimed that one at?  It ricocheted off of me back to him and I offered him a smile and nothing else.  If you don't ask a person to sponsor you they are not your sponsor and your expectations are faulty.   Anyhow listening to him and watching him reminded me of what I was like when I first entered our program.  I was a work in progress and the only things that were suggested to me that made sense was "please correct your behavior or leave" and "Keep coming back".  Try those suggestions on a newbie who was crazy and trying to understand where newly sane people were coming from.   I shared my ESH with him and a loaner ODAAT daily reader and the current meeting schedule.  He will be coming back cause he is hating the insanity and wants the serenity we have received by attending our face to face groups with humility and becoming teachable.  He thought the rest of us were speaking Greek and wants to learn Greek now.    LOL   As long as he stays willing and humble he will do fine...frazzled and fine.   ((((hugs))))  Thanks for letting me share.  smile

I have to Say I have Many NEWBIES in the Program that I Find Myself in as well... I Enjoy the Snap backs sometimes to see how Far I have come, and Others times I have to "Thump" the Table myself and Say... I'm Sorry, My FAMILY :D

Progress is a Wonderful thing, and Not Needing Perfection is a Blessing in its Self... Grateful to be HUMAN :D

PS.. I'm a Little Bias Here... HOWEVER.... He would Endure a Great Honor if he had Such a Sponsor :)

Love, Hugs, Prayers & Support My Brother

Great share,as usual Jerry. I too am able to readily identify with the newbie and often marvel at the subtle changes that i have experienced.

It truly is a fellowship of equals.

Jerry -

You are doing something right - you got one in pain to go!!!

For 2 Wednesdays in a row now, I've been stood up by crazy people who want a solution but just can't get to the doorway.

Oh well - perhaps it will happen next week - who knows. I was able to share QTIP (Betty's) with both of them this week, so am planting seeds.

Thanks for the share - gave me a bit of a chuckle and then a bit of humility. I have always heard that we are all equals in the rooms, and that made me feel more 'accepted' in the beginning.

Al-Anon is a gift!
