Wish I wasn't here...again...

Hi,

I'm looking for some online support though, honestly, I'd like to be on (almost) any website other than this one...I'd much prefer to just stick my head in the sand and pretend this isn't happening.

My husband's been in recovery for nine years and I went to family counselling then (a lot like Al Anon but at the rehab centre) and found it really helpful. But that was a long time ago and now my twenty year old daughter is actively alcohol dependent I'm really struggling to remember everything I learned then. I'm finding living with her like some sort of nightmare I'd like to wake up from (though compared to others' experiences I shouldn't complain - but focus on the similarities...). I'm trying to not live every day around her drinking and moods but failing mostly. Help!

Advice anyone?? My husband got help pretty quickly but my daughter's still in denial. There are similarities to last time, and a lot of difficult memories coming back, but differences too.

Thank you

Im sorry this has came back into your life in this way. Its such a blow when its back and its your child. I do understand and i got the help i needed at face to face meetings. You will be welcomed and for me, the literature on detachment was really helpful. I learned to detach with love and my family life improved greatly.

Thank you. I can't get to any meetings as we're living overseas where there's not even any AA let alone Alanon. Hence wanting the online support so much.

I think you're right and reminding myself about detachment would be helpful.

Thanks

Agape...welcome to the board...you are not alone and sticking with MIP will help you remember things you learned a while back.   MIP has daily meetings on the chat board. Face page has the times...twice daily.  Relax and try remembering that you didn't cause this, can't control it and will not ever be able to cure it.   (((((hugs))))) smile
