March 2 readings ODAT and C2C

Today's reading in the Courage to Change is a great reminder. It points out how reading the Al-Anon conference approved literature can aid our recovery.  It indicates that  by reading this literature, in between meetings, and when we feel lonely angry, or confused we are learning to replace long-established negative ways of thinking  with the new, healthier, more positive approach to life and to love..

The reading points out that often we start reading the  literature at times of pain but it is best to switch to a regular routine and make it part ofour morning rituals.

The page also suggest that thinking about what we read, condensing it into a few sentences, and reflecting on it during the day is what really affects our growth and change.

The quote is from this is Al-Anon; "daily reading of Al-Anon books and pamphlets opens our minds to the certainty of a better, more rewarding way of life"

The ODA T for today speaks about attending meetings. It points out that many people at the meeting, smiling and speaking about program and their blessings, maybe be the very ones who have had the most difficult  problems in their homes.. As we talk to these people and practice the program we discover that they do not depend on their own limited resources but on the  power greater than themselves in whom they have  confidence.  The quote is:"With Divine help. I will accept what I cannot change with courage, composure and good humor.

I guess I would sum up the ODAT reading by saying that it stresses  trust in a Higher Power, acceptance of life on life's terms and carrying the message.

I would sum up the C2C reading by stating that it reminds us that Al-Anon literature is a powerful tool in recovery and the more often that we use it the faster we can grow and change.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks for this, Betty!

I would like to comment on the C2C reading. I have been, so far, unable to make it to a face-to-face meeting due to my rural location, the meeting times available to me, and my work schedule. I am working on this, because a face-to-face meeting is something that I want to make a part of my life. I need to begin to re-establish a support network in my local community. I have made this message board a part of my daily routine, and I feel myself weaken in my program and my inner-monologues when I do not stop by on a daily basis. I find myself strengthened and more able to function in general when I start and end my day here, and read the daily alanon readings. Alanon literature is a powerful recovery tool, especially because it shows us what can be, and what we can work toward. Embracing this message has made a huge difference for me and my life.

Thank you for taking the readings and topic Betty;) I liked what you said about taking a few sentences or phrases and reflecting on them. I'm reflecting on what I read in hope for today....that our conditioning and behaviors are learned over time. It gives me compassion for self and others. It is a effort to change it takes courage like the book says. Forgiveness and compassion for those who continue to suffer at the hands of the disease. The disease is so complex and multi faceted.
I love the reminder c2c .. There are so many alanon tools to pick up during the day;) I also love the odat reminder....Gods will.. Looking for humor in problems and trusting God can juggle all my problems. I had no sense of humor coming in. I was so Rigid and serious....with time I learned to laugh and loosen up for the first time in my life. I could just let things happen and be silly.... And decide what I liked instead of what everyone else likes. If I rely on myself and my will ..I will quickly revert to old obsessive ways..best to stay in prayer n program... Making calls as I need to;) God speaks through my alanon friends. Thank you for allowing me to share.
