Something to smile about

Daughter's graduation ceremony is tomorrow night. A while ago I promised her the works, a new dress, shoes etc but of course that was no longer possible and I was worried she would feel yukky next to her dressed up friends. But we've been scouring the op-shops, tonight we finally found great shoes, belt, and some bling to go with a dress she already had. All for pocket change. She tried it all on tonight and she looked FABULOUS. She's excited, she's really enjoying this last week of school with her friends. Thursday she goes on the big end of year trip to the big water-park (ie big water slides etc) with her school and she has bathers to wear now and I've paid for all of her end of year expenses so, no more stress about that, I have achieved what I set out to achieve....she got to finish the school year and graduate with her friends and it's nice to see she's really enjoying herself and seems to have adjusted her attitude quite a bit.

So these 2 months have been hard but, this is the payoff.

So my mother and sister and daughter's father and his wife and kids are all coming to graduation tomorrow night and I am so dizzy and spluttery and gross with this cold that I am worried I will end up missing it myself LOL, lets hope it doesn't come to that!!

Anyway this is the payoff and it's nice, a great end to her primary schooling will be something she remembers and it makes me feel good to see her happy and proud to see how she can make herself look like a million $$$ on a handful of coins and be happy with it, she got that trait from me!!!!!!!

Something to smile about anyway

That certainly is something to smile about Ms.M. Congratulations to you and daughter for being able to achieve this goal in the light of all the negative happenings. .
Please share a picture if you can. Then we can all continue smiling.

I will be sure to post a picture tomorrow night. I LOVE her taste in clothes, she goes for halter necks and high wasted swing skirts, very 50's, so very different to what her friends choose.

I've actually been contemplating...
Daughter has a 5 week summer break before she starts high school.
I have no classes now until February when I resume my bachelor degree on campus. (YAY!!!) And I have been very daughter focused for many months and have a very great need to get my life back in order because it's not in very good shape right now. Sharing a small bed in a small room with daughter has not been easy on either of us..
So daughter doesn't love spending a lot of time at her dads because they treat her kind of like a baby but she's safe there and well cared for and she has agreed she will be happy to spend more of the holidays there than with me. She isn't mistreated there, it's just, they don't seem to be interested in getting to know her but rather pushing her into a "little girl" costume that doesn't fit her at all and she finds it boring and frustrating. But she has agreed and I know it isnt all bad there and they will go on trips and do fun things, she will have a decent summer break.
So, she will go there until Christmas day, come home with me for a few days (we have a tradition of seeing the new Hobbit movie on Boxing day) and then return to her father for 2 weeks, back to me for a few days and then again to her fathers. The great benefit to this is, I can live much more cheaply if daughter spends this time with her father and I can take advantage of the high season here in my touristy beach town and work whatever hours I can find, maybe at the fish n chip shop, they are always super friendly to me and in summer the queue goes down the street and around the block at night, average wait for fish n chips 1 hour!!!! Anyway there's work aplenty over the summer holiday here. With daughter at her dads I will be able to work nights or long days or whatever over summer. And the aim is to find a place for us ready to move into. I can check out houses, apply for every one I find until I get one and then take trips to the opshops to find us some furnishings, decorations etc and get it ready and nice for when she comes back to stay. I think we both know this is the best way for me to get us into a new home by the new school year.
Daughter's chosen high school is a long way from her fathers and I know he was hoping we would move closer to him but we are not so, I think it'll be good for her to have some time there over summer and I know he is very keen on the idea. And, practically, it means at least he is forking out for her summers entertainment while I focus on making money, finding a house and also completing the online units I need to do before February.
I think it will be a positive move for everyone and its nice that I am now in a place where I don't fear that if I let her spend extra time there he will convince her to go and live with him. I used to fear that very much.
So, it probably won't go to plan anyway LOL but, that's what I am contemplating.

Congratulations! Sounds like a great outfit, too. I am so confused. I must not know anything about Australia. She is starting summer break soon? It's winter here. I guess I need to do some online studying about different countries and their seasons. Lol. All the kids here graduate in June. Can you educate me? Lol

NLG here, we finish the school year around 17-20- December. Then, we have Christmas, New year, Australia Day (January 26 sort of your version of thanksgiving) all in the holiday period. We have 5 weeks where children don't go to school and single parents say "wtf??? what am I meant to do now?" before we start the new year over. I believe it is sort of like what you call "spring break". For us it is summer break.

Yey!
I am happy you could see your plans to the end and your daughter will have great memories of her ceremony.
Your ideas for the summer sound good. Fingers crossed you will find a place soon.

Interesting. I just googled what season you're in. Lol. Summer? So bizarre to me...Christmas when it's warm. As you can tell, I am not very good at geography. Lol

hahaha in Brazil we have Christmas in the summer too. People buy fake Christmas tree with fake snow on it, it is surreal. For Christmas dinner, the table is full of difference salads and cold desserts. Spending New Years at the beach is the best. You need to wear brand new lightweight white clothing and jump the waves or just going into the sea at midnightand don't forget the fireworks and beach party with live music till morning.
Ah, I did enjoy my youth. Could have easily been wearing the A's shoes right now. Thank God I don't have the genes.

Sounds brilliant mel. I love that your daughter has her own unique style, like you. I think it shows courage and strength of character to not follow others to fit in. You have done well, what a year you have had, many big changes and you have handled them amazingly well. Keep on keeping on dollface.x

Luiza, at least you guys do salad in summer. Here, it's roasted meats and vegetables even if it's 46 degrees. Thats...114.8 farenheit google tells me, our usual top summer temperature.
That means in most families there is some poor old woman...in my family my 80 year old grandmother...in the kitchen on Christmas day in the scorching heat roasting turkeys and pigs and cows and potatos and boiling puddings and baking apple pies and making gravy. My grandmother is vegetarian so in addition to roasting 75 different kinds of meat for the family carnivores she also cooks 2-3 vegetarian dishes for those of us that do not like to eat our furry or feathered friends. Old ladies slaving in hot kitchens in the middle of summer on Christmas Day. Another proud Aussie tradition!!!

This year I am going to do new years at the beach just like when I was a teenager so funny you mentioned that!
There is a beach town not far from here that has a HUGE music festival and people who don't have tickets just congregate on the nearby beach and enjoy it, and listen for free and watch the fireworks. That will be me this year, I haven't done ANYTHING remotely fun on new years eve for about 12 years...last year I tried going out with A but he was extremely drunk and it was...unpleasant....lol.

Sorry for my ignorance...lol...I learn something new every day! Not everyone is freezing cold on Christmas and New Years! It's pouring down rain here and it's about 50 degrees F here in Cal. I can't imagine doing all that cooking for Christmas in the summer.
Luiza the fake snow on tress...we have that here too. I don't live in the snow...I just like to look at it from a distance. I think celebrating New Years on the beach would be fun. I love Spring time the most....I could live in 70 ish degree F weather year round.

NLG, their toilets flush backward too according to legend. I think that means they flush up or something. And they drive on the wrong side of the road. And some of their mammals lay eggs, and some of them gestate in pockets. And there is still the vegemite thing...

Someday I will have to go there, on the whole it's hard for me to believe such a place really exists

Its the winter solstice on the 21st of december in the northern hemisphere, the shortest day of the year. In the southern hemisphere its the summer solstice, the longest day. After that for us in the north the days get a tiny bit longer each day and for you mel, a tiny bit shorter. Love it, geographys the best.x

lol Kenny, while we are on strange facts about Australia, did you know that space junk from one of America's space stations landed here and our government sent a $400 fine to NASA for littering? That makes me giggle.

Nothing wrong with fake snow on trees but having it at the hotest time of the year is weird! My grandma used to love arts and crafts so she would make her own snow out of cotton wool. :)
