what do you do for fun?

I have a daughter who is completely amused by putting her face in a plastic jug and making sounds. (she's one and a half). Play is not always a thing that comes naturally after years of coda training so I'm asking you all, what do you do for fun? I struggle with this, tend to deny it for years and years then break out in a rash and do something mad like oh marry an alcoholic. Lately though I've been trying to find joy in simple things...so yes open brainstorm on fun.......

Your story reminds me of a quote:  "...and a little child shall lead them."  Any chance you could both make music with some jugs?

That is cute and sounds like fun to me. I guess I like to go to the gym, swim, sauna, walk by the river, stop by the puppy park and watch the dogs play, listen to opera, and read Stephen King novels.

You are in for a treat.. especially with a 1.5 year old
They have MOPS group. Google one in your area. They are fun. The find things to do for free. They are a great mom's support group.

Bookstore story time - you will meet momd over time. The kids interact.

Library - ours has craft times, story time.

Farms I took my kids all the time to see hosts and bunnies.

Inside gyms have special events.
Music free for first visit..
Once you meet these moms they will take care of you..
Look for kids things to do in town.
I hope this helps

I work with children and I have a lot of fun in my work. I love it when I can be silly and give free rein to my imagination. I love to connect to 3 and 4 years olds.
A part from work I like going to museums, art exhibitions, galleries. Even travelling on a London double decker bus observing the people and the city is very fun for me.
Also I love to watch my favourite TV programmes but haven't done for a while now. The lounge where the TV is was exH's territory and I haven't totally claimed it yet. I am spending too much time in my bedroom where is now nice and cosy.
Also I have always the radio on.

*aquamom mulls as kids delight in hose, water, squirting each other*.tries to push away thoughts of pnuemonia (in summer), bush fires and wasting water (all 50 litres of it after record rainfall) and commits to being in the moment more often . Great ideas everyone.

I get it aquamom - especially that part about pneumonia in summer (which of course doesn't develop because of playing in the water from a hose.) I dare you. No, I double dare you to sit in the kids pool and play Marco Polo. (I know. I know. It doesn't work well in a kiddie pool if you have one, but everybody might laugh.)

I work out, go out to dinners with a few Al Anon friends every once in a while. I play tennis, like hiking, and enjoy being outdoors exploring nature most of the time. I also like to read and get pedicures when I feel like affording it, LOL!

I read, work with my flowers in the spring and summer and just recently, I have taken up sewing for my 3 years old granddaughter. I am having so much fun making her outfits. I'm finding out just how creative I can be.  I have even asked Santa to bring me a new sewing machine for Christmas!

I practice yoga, take walks in the woods, and learn something new. It first started where every year I would learn something new, then I stepped it up to learn something new (golf, dancing, learning a language, etc) for as many years as I was old... as you can imagine, it's become quite the challenge! But, it keeps me enjoying the new experiences and enriching my life.

I love this thread, so many ideas and fun is something that I've been hankering for recently.

Betty ((((hugs)))) - your read Stephen King for fun???!! You are a multi-faceted angel for sure!
(((Cloudyskies))) - I had a sewing machine for my birthday this year - I hope Santa (and his elves) brings you what you wish for, I love mine!

I've been doing things for peaceful fun recently - patchwork, painting, tapestry. I am always reading and at the moment I'm reading lots of books that describe journeys and wildlife walks.

When I feel playful I take the dog for a long walk to places we haven't been before and we run down hills together; my cats are good fun - they love to play games; listening to comedy on the radio; drawing cartoons; and getting together with friends of course. Watching wildlife is always a joy.

Occasionally I have a hankering for silly fun, like climbing a tree or dancing around the outside of our house when the wind is blowing or building a fire pit.

Aquamom - I did buy a paddling pool a couple of summers ago, sadly punctured by dog who wanted to climb in as well, but it was fun while it lasted!

I bicycle, play bass, and camp with my son's Boy Scout troop. The scouts are a blast if you dont mind eating a burnt grilled cheese sandwich once in a while.

Fun these days is doing things with my kids. Usually attending their activities (football, basket ball, cross country, cheering...I have 3 teens!) and it is extra fun when AH is too busy to go with me...OMG I just wrote that! Ha!

 Hey Luiza

I LOL'd at this.  I love quietly watching tv now.  I can hear it clearly, I haven't got some drunk talking rambling nonsense all the way through it.  I have it on a nice low volume and can hear every word.  It used to be blaring out and I couldn't hear it anyway!

I love to sit with my cup of tea and relax and watch a new series.  Bliss! smile

When I was putting away dishes today I thought of this post and contemplated making noises into a plastic jug and giggled. But I didn't want to have to re-wash the jug so I refrained.

Lately I read Terry Pratchet novels, they make me laugh and laugh.
Daughter and I have certain TV shows we watch together, or sometimes I play computer games with her. They are fun, in moderation.
Harassing the cat can be fun when all else fails

Love all of it! MissM,a cup will do fine! The Tarzan cry is a fantastic ending to the morning flat white. I have gotten all tense and serious of late, and with alanon I am reminded of just what I'm tense about...something I didn't cause, cant control, nor cure. So, with that in mind,I hereby officially resign my position as the Fun Police.

Oh! It's summer where you are! Take that little one and teach her how to lay down and roll down a grassy hill. My 4 yr old has loved to do that since she was able. My boys taught her. It is so much fun and even hilarious to watch them!

aquamom: I am doing daily what I can for FUN! It is fun sometimes to get up just to smell coffee & sometimes the roses. I have been getting up w/ a sense of freedom & serenity like I haven't had in awhile. Fun is subjective I guess. I guess my idea of fun is different from others. When you have gone down the scale as far as I have, laughing at myself or sharing a joke can be a blast!

This is what I can think of now. It has been awhile since you posted this. I wanted to comment sooner but w/ lack of time & no ideas, I hesitated.

I hope you have an idea of what I mean.

Kathleen

Speedway!!! I thought of our dear Betty when I found us at the racetrack last night, watching sprint cars go round a dirt track. Omg those things go so fast, the kids loved it, little daughter waving her flag chanting go go go! And wanting to climb the fence (umm NOo!!), the baby just slept through all the noise, and the one who has autism clapped his hands and beamed. Hotrod if you read this, were sending you a whole heap of the warm fuzzies today. You are such a beautiful lady.

((( Aquamom ))) I am so glad that you and the family enjoyed the experience of the race track.

My son loved it and I must admit, that each time I visited the track , my  heart beat fast with fear for his life but ultimately I loved seeing him in  his yellow race car named : "Little Victories" race around the  track .

He named his car Little Victories  because he said it took many victories over himself to succeed at the track .  He called me "Hotrod" because I always drove within the speed limit .01

Thanks for thinking of me today

I like dancing. I'm not 16 anymore and all those James brown moves make me reach for my nitro spray but my wife likes dancing too. We've learned that dance is not just a noun. It's a verb too. An action word. On new years we'll be at a dance put on by the entertainmenent committee of another fellowship we belong to. It's our wedding anniversary that night. 15 years.so we goin dancing and we might try a few other verbs too. I guess my point is to do what makes ya feel good. The jug thing sounds fun. I think I'll try it.
