Don't take this disease lightly...

Have been speaking with another one of us and listening; comparing notes and experiences part of which is the mental, emotional and physical side affects that event he non-drinker can suffer from directly related to "our part in it".  The member caused me to inventory and remember what it was like and it brought my focus back to the reality of how frightening this disease can be even to the non-drinker. The stress symptom on the mind, the body, the spirit and emotions are frightening.  It hasn't been so long for me to remember several of mine and I wish those events on no one ever; not even my worst enemy (don't have any of those anymore gratefully).

First thing first?  Take care of yourself and have lots of help ready when you need it.    (((((hugs))))) smile

There is no doubt in my mind that Al-Anon, MIP and HP have saved my physical and mental health. I cannot believe how long I suffered!! But am grateful I've found relief.

I agree jerry. It takes its toll on us. Our bodies arent supposed to be in the fight flee mode so often. Alcoholism brought an almost constant state of fear for a while for me. Feeling more peaceful these days, residue fear but much better only due to alanon, such a grateful member.x

i agree whole heartedly with this....my raging mother was as scary as him....flight or fight mode , hyper alertness, waiting for the other shoe to drop, all did damage to my central nervous system.....thanks to alanon/coda i am much better....like el-cee says.."residue fear"  but much better...in extreme cases of exposure to this, there is never any 100% recovery...i know I am a "lifer"...i got a life sentence, but i can serve it out a lot healthier in alanon rather than outside of alanon....to be honest, i don't know how i lived this long w/out being in recovery.....First i think it was toughness on my part, then i progressively numbed out/dissociated....those 2 items, i stll have to work on, i see me doing them, still, when under fire...

I agree Jerry I lost 25 pounds and was smoking 3 packs of unfiletered cigs a day when my sion passed. I had not even noticed this and I was in alanon a long time. Can not imagine what I would have done without program.

Absolutely, Jerry. I'm remembering myself just a few months ago. The point at which I had reached is frightening. I am so thankful each day that my HP led me to Al-Anon. What's so sad is there are a lot of sick people living with alcoholics. They just don't realize they are sick. no Sadly, they think their alcoholics are the sick ones, not them.

I got sick right along with my AH as his disease progressed. So glad to have Al-Anon tools to help me in my recovery. I have come so far from those dark days. Thanks for sharing and reminding us, Jerry.

Thanks for this Jerry I was emotionally eating myself into obesity and just a miserable wreck. Thank God I have gotten so much healthier and continue to grow towards freedom and living my life out from under this disease. I will always be an al-anoner and know where to get my support! Thank you for this reminder.
