RE: nearly had a heart attack

Poor El-Cee. I do feel for you. We lived for a time in Houston and there are roof rats. And we had an old house and couldn't build them out. They weren't big rat rats like I saw outside a store in Tulsa one time. I'd have a terminal case of the fantods if I ever thought one of those was coming nigh my dwelling.

Cathy--
OK! Unless somebody lives in cobra country, I think you win the prize for scariest wildlife.

Lord preserve us! All of us! From whatever!

Hickory Dickory Dock

THREE mice ran up this clock

the clock struck one

and the other two got away w/out a scratch and went to see el-cee

SO , lady, hows the rodent issue going????  did your beedy eyed litte friend get the message that he/she is to vacate???? I like the idea of luring it outside or catching it and taking it outside

one time back in 1990 i worked for this lovely family owned business, a termite company...loved the owners....anyway, i had this office all to myself...and i go to the restroom and in the TOILET is a rat!!!  and hes MAD!!!  dunno what he was mad about when it was MY toilet he was inposing on, but i called the guy next door who was an animal lover like me and together we got a pail and some short brooms and we coaxed the little fellow into the bucket and i told my friend  "take him waaay out by the trees and the garden over yonder and turn him loose.....well...my kind neighbor stumbled as he headed out that way,  mr. rat jumped out of the pail and made a run for it, only to be caught by one of the neighborhood kitties......I was sooo upset....all that effort for one opportunistic kitty to get a free meal.........

Hi neshema, well, my son got the torch out and started looking for traces and under the kitchen units, lots of mouse droppings, so I cleaned them up and he tried to block the gaps that is probably allowing them access. The musty smell seems to be gone now but it looks like its a family and theyve been here a wee while. I put talcolm powder around to try and see where they are and have been. Their days are numbered im afraid. They have got to go, no too ways about it. Goners.x

And after the scorpions, tarantulas, snakes, rats and cats stories, a mouse family shivers in the dark recesses of a Scottish apartment and...

Ugh!! Mice! They terrify me! Lately we have had a large porcupine scratching on our glass door in the middle of the night - thank goodness he is outside, but he still scares me! Lol rodents are not my friend!

If the box, tights, grapes and cheese work for our sister in Scotland, perhaps you could try it for Mr. Porcupine? He's just trying to make friends with you. That's why he is scratching at your glass door. He may need a drink of water in the middle of the night?

That poor, poor mouse. And next year - we'll have another story to add to our list of critter remembrances.

Not worked out how to do that yet. How to get it to stay In the box and actually move it without losing it. Thinking of phoning a person tomorrow, hopefully the mouse is still there.

El-Cee--

I hope your very resourceful friend can get it outside. When you think about it, if all the annoying and/or scary things in our lives could be so efficiently dealt with, we wouldn't all be here wringing our hands, would we? Well, some of us are wringing our hands. Then there's Catherine.....

Catherine--

You have a wicked sense of humor. I admire that very much

I wonder if grapes and tights and all would have worked for the baby raccoon who came tumbling down with the folding stairs to the attic in Houston? I handed husband a towel so he could wrap him up and take him outside. Baby raccoon--well, he was a young one--flashed teeth and claws and husband opened both doors to the outside and retreated so he could figure it out by himself. We were surprised by the amount of wildlife halfway between downtown and The Galleria. But then God never intended for that place to be anything but a swamp. Humans were a blot on the ecosystem.

Can somebody hold the bottom of the box and someone else the books or will that not work? If I could book a flight tonight, I'd come do it myself.  PS:  Who gets to eat the leftover cheese and grapes?  If no one wants them, could you send them to our sister with the porcupine hopeful?

Grateful, please grab a flight. The cheese was smeared all over the carpet in the chaos, I dont know where the grape is. I hate the thought of the thing in that box all night.

Did your help all leave?

And Temple - giggle. I don't know if the cheese and grapes would have worked for the baby raccoon and good you had a towel to hand to your husband to take care of it.

By the way - while we're on the subject of critters - let's talk bats. If one gets into your house, get to the side of it with a pillowcase and just easily put the pillowcase over it and then release it outdoors. Radar won't pick up the pillowcase coming easily behind it. No need to swat at them with towels, brooms, tennis racquets.

Last post guys, thanks for being on this terrifying journey with me. I thought you nice people might want to know that the wee mouse is being rescued tonight. The man is on his way and hes going to release it for me. However, traps will be laid for any family members im afraid, sorry guys but they have got to go.

We have used the humane trap plenty of times and then we drive them out to the woods and let them go. I think they are adorable. However, you must check the humane trap very very regularly. Two mice were in at once one time - there's plenty of room for multiple mice in there, but they seemed to have had a panicked battle to the death :(

Last, last post. Confession, im very sorry to say that we stressed the wee mouse out so much by chasing and catching it, we killed it. I feel very very bad.the man came and put it out of its suffering, he said its wee heart wont ever take that kind of stress and there was no way it was surviving. Im very sorry and feel bad and I wont ever be part of catching a mouse again. I had thought it was close to getting its freedom. I dont know why we thought or any of us thought it would be a good idea to catch a mouse. I mean who does that?

In spite of your fear and revulsion you tried to give the little guy a chance, now you feel sad for it. I think you are just a sweet and loving person, even when something scares you and grosses you out you feel compassion for it and do what you can to give it a chance, sound familiar? What a tender heart you have.
Now you have a "wee" little mouse ghost living in your house, teehee.

blankstare  Rest in peace, little one.

You tried, elcee.  You practiced the 3As to the best of your ability.  The outcome was not in your hands.
