Happy.

I haven't driven anywhere yet.

Took my car to the mechanic and he said he can look at it tomorrow but most likely will need to get a part; it could be expensive, it could be I have to wait a week for him to get it in, oh well. All that is wrong is the speedo doesn't work but, since the main thing I kept doing wrong in my lessons was speeding without noticing, I don't feel at all comfortable beginning my driving career with no indication of how fast I am driving so, I need to be patient. I wonder if there is any kind of device that can sit on the dash and tell me my speed without needing the on-board speedo to be functioning? That would be nice and save me time and money most likely.

It doesn't matter. I'm still buzzing about being allowed to drive now; I had resigned myself to never ever so I'm quite elated. If I must wait a week to get out on the road, I must wait a week.

I'm having a nice time just now; the world feels full of possibilities and hope. I saw a friend I haven't seen for ages today; last time we spoke she seemed 'disinterested" and I had taken it personally and decided she didn't like me (that was pre-al-anon me). I surprised myself by getting out of the car (where I was waiting) and approaching her and saying a huge friendly hello and suggesting a meetup next school holidays for us and our girls. And you know what? She seemed happy to see me, very glad to make a date for lunch and play-time for the girls. I wonder why I was always so scared of everyone and thought they hated me? Her smile was so warm and genuine, I wonder if I would have interpreted it differently a year ago?

Last weekend another female friend called and asked if I would like to just go walking and talking, usually I would be too lazy (sorry, just being honest lol) but I agreed; she took me along an amazing walking track around the cliff-tops overlooking our beach; amazing!!! Next time I will say yes in a heartbeat instead of being too lazy; it was really good.

I start my new short course in a couple of weeks and I'm so excited about it. Imagine, me, leaving the house, and DOING STUFF during the day. With OTHER HUMANS!!! lol. It feels so positive and apparently there is a huge shortage of workers so it should translate quickly into employment for me. Yay!!

Anyway, just happy today and wanted to share it. Things aren't perfect, there is still bad stuff and stress; A is still an A and wet-brained and getting worse, the clock is ticking on having to move out, the electricity is unpaid, I have more expenses than I do income, Michael Douglas got into my room and peed on my doona again and I washed and dried it and tonight he did it again...GRRRRRRRR...oh well. There will be solutions. There is also a lot to smile about.

Yay for everything, even the bad stuff which I can at least learn from.

(((everyone)))

Melly, a lot of GPS have a feature where they show you your current speed. Even better some will show you the speed limit for where you are currently driving and let you know that you are speeding. You might be able to get one for less than the cost to repair your speedometer.

Kenny do they need to plug in to the cars computer or do they function independently? Because that might be the perfect solution; I could get one tomorrow!! I want one that does celebrity voices. Those are fun

They don't need to plug into the car's computer, or at least most of them don't. They usually just plug into the cigarette lighter, and have a bracket that sticks to the windscreen or sits on the dash. I had a TomTom that you could put voices into, it was pretty fun.

So this "problem" is going to end up having a FUN solution where I get to buy a fun gadget.

I'm researching GPS and apparently you can get some decent GPS aps for tablets that will do the same thing. Time to bargain-hunt and compare features and decide what to buy.

HAPPY MELLY HAS JUST BECOME ECSTATIC MELLY!!!!!!!

Thanks for the tip Kenny biggrin

Yes, you can get GPS apps as well. I don't even have one anymore, I use the Google GPS app on my Android phone. I have a car holder for it, it charges while in the holder and I use it for nav while in it. However, the Google app doesn't tell me my speed under most conditions, I do miss that somewhat, but my speedo works so I'm not dependent on it.

Have fun, and make sure you take it down from the windshield when you stop - they get swiped a lot!

Both my phone and tablet are ancient and useless so if I can spend the money earmarked for the mechanic on upgrading one of those instead I'm going to be a seriously happy woman!!!

Check your countries laws, you get fined In the uk for a broken speedometer, think we may be a bit stricter though. Glad everything is falling into place for you.x

It will have to be fixed properly eventually LC technically i am sure I could be fined and ordered off the road until it is fixed. But A has been driving it with no speedo for 2 years so I think I should be OK with a GPS or using a tablet or phone for a while until I have enough to get the electrics all fixed, there are a few other annoying glitches.
I don't think there is a difference in "strictness" between our countries, the only difference is our highway patrol cops ride around on kangaroos whereas yours probably drive cars or motorbikes.
lol sorry just being silly but the thought gave me fits of giggles

I would guess if the Aussie patrols use kangaroos, the UK ones use hedgehogs?

Our UK police drive panda cars of course!
(I love the hedgehog idea though - a brilliant if slightly risky disguise for catching speeding motorists!)

I reckon police riding kangaroos, hedgehogs and pandas would be way less confusing than in America; from what I learned as a child, the police drive regular police cars but everybody else drives orange chargers with confederate flags painted on the roof and they all yell yeeha a lot and don't drive on roads at all!

Well the police should stop riding on them then! That's just cruel! I'm going to write a letter to your prime minister about it.

"Dear Mr Salmond.
I have recently been made aware of the cruel misuse of hedgehogs as police vehicles in your country.
This is a cruel and barbaric practice that results in the deaths of incalculable numbers of hedgehogs each year. If you do not put a stop to it, I intend taking dramatic action".

Good so far?

lol LC, prickly, haw haw!
A has just done what he agreed to do when handing the car back to me; cleaned the car vacuumed and put its correct tyres back on.
Now he is angry and rude and awful ...enough about that, other than to remind myself- it's not about me!!  And my car has been cleaned and vacuumed and has its correct wheels on, hoorah! (Might check those wheels considering how angry and rude he was lol)
Now I have a dilemma, he was going to drive it to the mechanic; it's in a tricky busy confusing spot with lots of passing trucks and service roads and I'm not sure where I turn or how to get in there; I was going to pay attention to what he did today so I know in future. My car is twice the size of the one I have been driving in my lessons, eeeek!
Gonna need my big girl pants today.

Anyway, time to go do grownup stuff in my CAR like the big grown up woman I am lol.
Yay!!!
Wish me luck!!

Kenny- I bought a GPS today. I'll try it out tomorrow It's a Garmin nuvi 2597 if that means anything to you. The man in the shop said it is fantastic which most likely means it's total rubbish and he wants to get rid of them as soon as possible lol!!!
I wanted to have the mechanic look at the car anyway as the electrics have a few issues and even if the speedo has to wait for more finances I'd feel better having it looked at before I take to the roads in a big way.
I drove daughter out to her friday night thing last night and learnt a valuable lesson. Ugg boots are not good for driving in. So I took them off and drove in socks; yep, broke the law on my very first ever drive as a licensed driver LOL!!
