A surprise

I took my camera to one of the gardens in my yard to take a picture of a beautiful Tiger Lily I don't remember planting.  Most of the blooms in my yard are medium sized, but this one is about twice the size of all the others.  I wanted to capture it and maybe use it as my next avatar.  I stood in front of the flower and tried to adjust the lens when suddenly a hummingbird came to the center of the flower.  I was so surprised that I wasn't sure what it was at first, but snapped the picture anyway.  The bird then hovered near the center of the flower and then flew close to me and hovered over my head buzzing.  I know they can be aggressive and wondered if it would dive at me to get me away from the garden or maybe a hidden nest close by.  It didn't.  It just hovered near me.  I simply couldn't get my thoughts together enough to snap another picture of it.  I just watched it and listened for what was probably close to a minute.  What a surprise!  Some American Indian tribes believe the hummingbird is an omen for joy.  I'm going to choose their belief for my own this evening.  What a gift nature gave me.  I went to my meeting right after I received this gift and listened to the stories and the pain that some of my membership are in.  I thought to myself that a008.JPGs difficult as some of our lives can become, I do trust that joy comes to visit us when we least expect it and we aren't looking for it.

Well, Dear One,

That looks like a miracle and a metaphor for Grace, to me.

A flower you don't remember planting that's twice as big as the others and a hummybird (what my friend calls them) sharing his little sweet self with you.

Surely Joy comes in the morning.

We have sone hummingbirds that perch on a tree outside one window sometimes and it always seems like a blessing.

Thanks for sharing. And for the picture of your sweet face.

Temple

How sweet!  I have a feeder outside of one of our windows and am always delighted when I hear the whirring and the chirping...I go to the window and just enjoy.  Gods reminder that retirement will bring you joyful surprises!

BEAUTIFUL shot! You can hold a feeder up and they will come land on you. They just are not afraid. Probably so busy keeping their wings flapping!

I am so glad you experienced this. now you know why my animals fill my heart every day. The creator gave us these creatures and flowers to enjoy! hugs!

With long pointed beaks, Debilyn of Oregon. LOL. My friend was working in her garden one day and a hummingbird attacked her. She was so surprised by it. She's 5'7" and forced out of her own garden by that tiny, little bird. Every hummingbird that has shown up in my yard has flown away if I moved. I've just never had an experience like this one where the bird showed up just as I was going to shoot a picture and then hovered by me this long a time. Such a delight for me although it took time for my brain to even register what was happening. I love these little birds and what a special treat this was for me although it was the size of both my thumbs put together.

I was so happy to be able to share this special treat with all of you, too. We see so much yuck as the disease progresses in our loved ones. It brought me joy to bring all of you something that was filled with surprise, delight and beauty for me and to listen to your response. (((MIP family)))

This morning, that beautiful flower is totally closed up - spent. I am so glad I took a picture of it when I did and noticed it when I did. Before Al-Anon, I couldn't see what blessings awaited me if I would only look. I was so caught up in making life what I wanted it to be for me and not awake to what blessings it was offering to me. Little by little, I've gotten better at living in the present moment and not being caught up in yesterday or tomorrow. Thank you, Al-Anon. Thank you, MIP. And thank you, thank you, HP.

Most of the cactus here that produce flowers are spent after one day except the Saguaro. I see flowers for days on top. The wild flowers in the spring are great to see....it brings color where isn't much.

I sometimes miss the green lawns and lush green hillsides but it is what it is. Arizona has it's own beauty.

(((( hugs ))))

For us Great Lakes people, Arizona has its most lovely appeal when the ground is covered in snow, its 10 below zero, and a rainstorm comes in to add ice to the mixture.
