Yay!!

Now they say that when life hands you lemons, you ought make lemonade, don't they? And I try to, I really do. I consider it a huge part of my healing. Because there's always a positive, isn't there? A lesson to be learnt at least? A silver lining of some description?

So last night Michael Douglas the Cat decided to warm me in my sleep, and he did this by peeing on me through my doona.

And in the spirit of thinking positively, even as I soaked the pee from my mattress and located a sleeping bag in the middle of the f'ing night I soothed myself with positive thoughts. Because, the doona probably needs a wash anyway, doesn't it? Won't I feel much better when I have disinfected my mattress and washed all of my bedding? It's a blessing in disguise, really. A good excuse to wash everything.

So I've just been to check on my doona, which I threw in the washing machine about an hour ago, and lo and behold, the feathers are no longer inside the doona, but floating gently on the surface of the water! It looks as though I tried to make duck soup in the washing machine, but forgot to pluck the ducks first!! And at the bottom of the machine is a torn and useless cotton sack. It IS however, now clean and smells delightfully of frangipanis. Hurrah!

So I've been racking my brain trying to find the positives to this turn of events.

So far I have come up with:

1) I get to sleep in my sleeping bag and feel like I am camping EVERY NIGHT now! What fun!

2) I no longer feel ANY guilt or hesitation about having Michael Douglas de-nutted.

3) My sleeping bag is waterproof and has a hood that I can zip my head into in case of extreme weather, so if I buy a rubber sheet to cover my mattress, I should be able to stay relatively dry while I am sleeping from now on.

So, yay!!!!

The positives you share by telling your story with wonderful wit! I can just picture the duck soup Melly A trying night though.
My vote goes to number 2.
And perhaps HP thinks it is time to get a new doona? (Is that the same as a duvet btw? I'll go google it!)

Yup, same as a duvet

Step 1- modify cat. Step 2- buy a new door-knob etc and a drill and fix bedroom door so that it can be closed. Step 3-buy new doona

I forgot step 2.5 which is call step-dad and ask him how to put in a door knob and latchy mechanism thing, and step 2.75 which is realise I don't understand a word he said, call him back and ask him if he will do it with me over skype lol!!

(((M))) Some days the lemons keep on coming, don't they? I can certainly understand feeling anger and frustration as even in sleep you can't trust that something negative won't occur nor can you trust that the remedy you employ will result in a positive outcome. But, being the kind of person you are - you are choosing to find a way to ensure that your sleep will not be disturbed by an angry cat or an abusive ABF. What a positive demonstration of spirit, tenacity and self-care. Refusing to indulge in self-pity or despair - good program work, Melly! Hope you and your stepdad can get that bedroom door secured, the feathers can be removed from the washer with little effort and a new, affordable covering for your bed either gets delivered to you by your HP or you see one that you just have to have!

((Melly)) Good program work! It must be difficult remaining upset with a cat named Michael Douglass. I like the idea of half steps, too!

Dear Melly,

Michael Douglas is certainly making sure you know he is about.  A water proof sleepng bag is a great solution .

 Great positive attitude.biggrin

Gotta watch those lemons, sometimes when you are squeezing them to make lemonade, they squirt you in the eye----but maybe your eye needs to be disinfected anyway?! LOL keep the positive rolling along.

mel you can sew your doona up where feathers/down got out,  put the feathers back in sew it up. dry in dryer.

best thing to do is buy some heavy material that is made to cover down and feather blankets, make a rectangle sew up sides then in an opening you leave put your feathers back in  is it called dicking? the material?

You can use sheets to make a new bag too.

I buy tons of old ones at thrift shops, wash and dry in dryer then make new duvets for them. I sleep on a feather bed and two down comforters!

You are so good how you look at things!

What I get from reading your post Melly is that we sometimes have to accept that "things" happen (vulgar word can be inserted) it happens, plain and simple, it happens and your outlook shows that you are seeing that little things like this just happen and they aren't the end of the world. Do an internet search to see how to do the door-latchy thing yourself, I found one that showed me how to replace a part deep into my washing machine - guy had a cell phone in one hand, filming the action, cigarette in other hand, and kept jostling things around in tight space to show how it was done, so I did it too and fixed my machine. I remember the days when little things like that happened and the ex-A made them the end of the world events, screaming at me (like I could fix it by him screaming at me) and throwing his weight around - now-a-days things just happen and I deal with them, I grumble maybe, but fix it and get on with the business of living. And find the humor where it can be found, Duck Soup in the Washing Machine - good title for a book eh?
