The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Meeting topics should be alanon related and reflect alanon tools. They are topics that all who have lived with the disease of alcoholism, can identify with and can share on.
I believe your topic may be limited to the experience of only a few. Music appreciation in itself is not an alanon tool. You can certainly select an alanon topic from the back of the C2C or ODAT and in your share refer to how music helps you to cope.
Tradition 10 suggests that we have no opinion on "outside issues" hence our name not be drawn into public controversy.
I believe , the benefits of music to our recovery is an outside issue

I would like to use how music can be healing and therapeutic as topic next month when I chair a meeting would that be okay? Or would it. E crossing a line
If you have any of the daily readers like courage to change, one day at a time or hope for today you'll find topics in the back of the books. When I read what you topic is I felt it would fall under a lot of those topics. Ones I am thinking of are Serenity, Tension relievers, Joy just to name a few. I am betting others will have ideas as well. Best of luck giving your meeting! Hugs! TT

DietCoke, it sounds like your HP may be giving you a nudge to share a song with your group. If it isn't something you can do during the course of the Al-Anon structure for meetings, maybe you can check with a few of your senior members of your group and see if they might think it's okay for you to share your music as something special after the regular meeting time.
In most of our meetings, I know things must stay on conference approved literature topics. But, if you want to share your music with the group, I'm sure you could make arrangements for people to hear it afterwards when the group breaks, right? Also, it might depend on the dynamics of the group. Some of the meetings I attend sometimes don't have any newcomers and it's a bunch of us who have 6 plus more months of program and many more. If there were newcomers, I'd be more inclined to stick with CAL stuff until afterwards.
Our shares are personal..."for me or just for me" and then we share. If in my meditation exercises or my "Easy Does it" practice or during my "Let go and Let God" work I incorporate the listening to music I don't see a detraction. Someone might listen and find it a tool they might want to use also. Music once was a big part of my recovery...not only playing and singing...and writing lyrics. Several of my originations were recorded for archives at a 1984 convention. One song was entitled "Detatch" and another "You're Love" written about my relationship with my HP.
You can also take a group conscience after explaining how you wanted to present.
The Group rules!! Yay. Keep coming back ((((hugs))))
